The UN’s Room XIX plenary chamber
The Palais des Nations, built in neoclassical style in 1936, was repeatedly extended over the decades. The largest hall, financed by Qatar, is the new Room XIX plenary chamber with 800 seats. Due to its stylized, wafer-thin, wood-fabric-composite ceiling and wall panels with sophisticated acoustics and superb multimedia equipment, this new space is quite a highlight. The redesign of the seating pays tribute to famous designers like Le Corbusier and Oscar Niemeyer, who worked on construction projects for the UN.
“The task chairs are distinctive and stylish, boast a high level of functionality and ergonomic comfort and are some of the best office chairs we’ve ever tested. The movable tables and stackable chairs are impressive for their clear design and materials, fabrics and colors, all of which are pleasing to the eye.”
