Bauhaus Reenactment

To commemorate the Bauhaus centenary, Prof. Phillip Oswalt collaborated with students at Kassel University to build a house for the very first time, which was designed by Bauhaus lecturer Ludwig Hilbersheimer as a “growing house” in 1930. In just three weeks, the L-shaped, single-story, wooden building was constructed as a design-build project by the university from prefabricated components at the historic site it was destined for, the Dessau-Törten World Heritage Site.

The temporary building is a communal and project space for the community, schools and Dessau University. It will be dismantled at a later date and used as an information space at the documenta art exhibition in Kassel. Photo: Christoph Petras
