Sammy Ofer Centre, London Business School

The Victorian Old Marylebone Town Hall at the heart of the English capital was rented to the London Business School (LBS) in 2012. The organization added a new teaching hub to the old building called the Sammy Ofer Centre after the person who contributed a big donation. Some of the building, such as its council hall and several consulting rooms for citizens, are still used publicly. The other sections accommodate 37 seminar spaces, six lecture halls, a library and recreational spaces, whose modern, linear features deliberately contrast with the historic atmosphere.

The main and ancillary building are linked by a distinctive, bridge-like steel-glass structure, which also demarcates the university’s separate, modern entrance hall. Photo: Diane Auckland
