Landtag Rheinland-Pfalz

In the early 1950s, the Deutschhaus, which was burnt to a cinder during the second world war, was rebuilt again in just 150 days. Around 65 years later, it no longer served the needs of a modern-day parliament building, quite apart from fire safety regulations, infrastructure or conference equipment. The facade was protected for its historical value and retained, but architect Linus Hofrichter completely gutted and rebuilt the building’s interior. The challenge of the refurbishment was to maintain the historical character of the building, but create a welcoming and contemporary space at the same time.
