Borders define the beginning of one area or the end of another.

The brief describes borders as being “tangible, clearly defined or subtly perceptible and are considered to be in place for protection or to act as a deterrent”. However, the European Architectural Photography Prize 2017 doesn’t want the emphasis to be on negative interpretations of the word by any means. The focus is primarily on the environment and the buildings on it and grappling with it from a photographic standpoint.

An association called architekturbild e.V. has presented the prize since 2003. And Wilkhahn has been a member from the moment the organisation was founded. This consistent support underlines Wilkhahn’s commitment to putting across the aesthetic appeal of architecture and related topics.

Entries are requested for a series of four photos in specified sizes. The deadline for submissions is 16 December 2016. The prize is worth 6,000 euros and presented by a panel of judges that includes Peter Cachola Schmal (director of the Deutsches Architekturmuseum DAM, Frankfurt/Main) and Reiner Nagel (chairman of the Federal Foundation for the Culture of Building, Potsdam). An exhibition of the prize-winners’ work and the awards ceremony are planned for May 2017 in the DAM in Frankfurt.
