In 2017, Wilkhahn collaborated with designer Wolfgang C.R. Mezger to develop a three-dimensional plastic shell for its stackable Aula chair range that provides exceptional comfort and support for any body shapes and sizes. With six shell colours and four upholstered versions, the attractive eye-catcher with its colour-matched plastic star base became a multi-award-winning all-rounder for new workspaces (garnering a Red Dot accolade and Iconic Award among others). In order to reap the benefits of the perfect seat shell for the specific demands of multipurpose spaces, Wilkhahn and Mezger have now come up with two new models. The new, equally stackable model with a tubular steel frame comes with fitted inline connectors and specially shaped armrests, meaning the chairs can be linked up very compactly. The other new model with a skid base made of bent tubular steel is both stylish and very easy to stack by just sliding the chairs onto the pile from the front.
The two new additional models with a tubular steel frame or skid base are primarily designed for areas where, alongside comfort and aesthetics, specific functionality is also wanted. The model with a tubular steel frame is stacked by placing it on top of the pile. If a large number of chairs is needed, its small width increases the number of seats that are possible in each row. At the same time, the versions with and without armrests can be connected with each other as desired.
If they need to be moved, the skid-base models can be pushed smoothly over the floor and are stacked by simply sliding them on top of one another from the front. As a result, these models offer the type of versatility required in meetings, seminars or training spaces or even cafeterias.
Black-grey, sleeve-like armrest pads made of PVC-free, thermoplastic elastomer are added to the armrests to achieve pleasant haptics in both new series of models. The frames also colour-match the six seat shell colours and always come in bright chrome plating if they need to be stacked.
The new frame types turn the Aula range into an all-rounder whose distinctive shape, single colour palette and seat shell’s exceptional comfort stand apart whatever the setting.
