Conference room reference - Fyerabendhaus

It’s not often that public participation in a community construction project results in a good outcome for everyone. However this was the case with the Feyerabendhaus in Moosburg an der Isar, Germany. The wishes of the local population, town council and architects were all taken into account. And the result is quite remarkable. The jewel in the crown of the office building is a multi-purpose conference room on the top floor, fitted out with Wilkhahn's Sito and Palette conference furniture ranges. It used to be considered one of the most striking buildings in the centre of the Bavarian town of Moosburg an der Isar. The previous owner of the former residential and business building, Richard Feyerabend, passed away in 1989 and left the former home of the inventor Georg Hummel to the town. His bequest triggered heated debate about the pros and cons of retaining the building. It wasn’t until 2004 that the town council eventually decided to pull it down and build a new structure The subsequent architectural competition specified that the new façade had to accurately resemble the old building. But none of the designs complied with this specification. After protracted discussions with the architects (which Moosburg locals joined in with enthusiastically) and changes to the designs, third-placed Peter Schwinde’s firm was appointed to take on the new build. Consequently, the careful restoration of the façade played a key role in the planning. Historical elements such as cornices, pilasters and the building’s Madonna were even integrated.

The town council’s conference room on the top floor is flooded with light and is the building's key element. It’s located directly under the glass roof which is structured horizontally with louvers and allows a generous view of Moosburg’s skyline. Meetings are held at a round conference table from Wilkhahn’s Palette system which can be set up and dismantled in no time. The cantilever chairs from the Sito 241/3 series is the comfortable seating used and the chairs also serve as all-rounders in a range of different backdrops. And the choice of furniture was deliberate because the room's not just reserved for the town council. As a venue for locals the idea is to use it for a multitude of purposes, for example for exhibitions, concerts or for corporate events. A building for everybody which the versatile furniture is ideal for.
