| It couldn't be easier: as of now, the complete Wilkhahn range may be planned with the help of innovative GDL technology! [07-11-2002] Wilkhahn is the first manufacturer of office furniture to offer the exceptional advantages of GDL technology for the specification and planning of all furniture programmes: each model in all serially available variants (surface finishes, upholstery, colours) can now be easily specified digitally and displayed three-dimensionally in excellent quality. Most important, however: the graphics data can be directly imported into nearly all current planning software - without vast quantities of data and costly formatting. Whether planners of specialist shops, whether organization and facility management, interior architect or architect - everybody who works with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) programmes , can profit from the advantages. The complete software and the Wilkhahn GDL data are available on both a CD-ROM and the Wilkhahn website online! Bad Münder. As in so many "special disciplines", varying data standards and CAD programmes had developed over the years parallel to one another in the planning software for architects. The result: in order to take on planning data from manufacturers and incorporate them into the respective planning, costly conversions of formats and frequent loss of quality were the rule - inasmuch as it was possible to convert the relevant data in the first place. The newly developed GDL technology designed especially for use in the Internet, puts an end to this. The abbreviation "GDL" stands for "Geometric description language" and is considered revolutionary for digital planning processes by virtue of its user-friendly handling, the small quantities of data, simple compatibility and the diverse application possibilities. Wilkhahn is the first manufacturer of office furniture to have drawn up its complete product range in GDL data. Without previous knowledge, for instance, of the model numbers and design variants, each model in all serially available designs can be specified, displayed in colour and interactively rotated in different perspectives. In one single step, data can be directly imported into planning or stored in all current file formats (3D Studio, ArchiCAD, AutoCAD, Art*Lantis, QuickDraw, WaveFront, Microstation, IFC, SVF, VRML, DXF and DWG). In the next days, Wilkhahn will be sending off the CD "Wilkhahn CAD 6/2002" to trade partners and architects in the whole world in order to provide them with GDL technology. This CD contains the planning data, installation software and the menu-driven operations of Wilkhahn's products in German, English, French, Italian and Spanish. Parallel to this, the GDL technology including the plug-in is now available at the Wilkhahn website which was recently awarded the bronze Cyber Lion in Cannes. At www.wilkhahn.com , "Service", "CAD Data" , all models may be individually specified and imported into planning. Those who wish, may load the GDL data for all Wilkhahn programmes from this website onto the hard disk in the form of a compact ZIP file (1.3 MB) and then work offline with the complete CAD library. The Internet-based solution allows for short term updating of CAD data, for example, when new products are introduced or products are removed from the programme. Provided the users are registered with the distributor of the electronic newsletter, they will be informed immediately of any changes in the CAD library. In this way, the current status of the CAD data is guaranteed at all times. "The fact that we are the first manufacturer of office furniture to present our complete range in the form of GDL technology and make this technology available to all partners, customers and architects via Internet, is in keeping with our claim to be first on the scene, not only with regard to product innovation, but in service and process achievements as well," explains Dr. Jochen Hahne, Chairman of Management at Wilkhahn.
