Wilkhahn press programme at the ICSID International Design Congress in Hanover on 7 and 8 September

[08-05-2003] This year the ICSID International Design Congress is to be held in Germany for the first time in its history - in Hanover and then in Berlin. It is, in fact, high time. After all, the Deutsche Werkstätten, the Deutscher Werkbund, Bauhaus and the Ulmer Hochschule für Gestaltung are regarded as being instrumental to the birth and inspiration of the Modern Age.
These developments have influenced Wilkhahn's history more than they have that of any other office furniture manufacturer. For this reason, Wilkhahn is actively involved as an official ICSID partner with the aim of enabling the Congress to take place in collaboration with other sponsors. In addition, Wilkhahn is also involved in terms of contents and concepts in several exhibitions and events surrounding the ICSID.

We would like to invite you to attend the Wilkhahn press programme on the occasion of the ICSID in Hanover on 7 and 8 September.

What is on the programme for you?

An exciting line-up comprising exhibitions, press conferences, lectures and international exchange of ideas, which we will compile and organize especially for you. Just to mention a few highlights:

  • "Design and Education" - with press conference, exhibition and panel discussion
  • Lectures - by John Maeda, Professor of Design and Information Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, and Li Edelkoort, publisher of three design journals and chairwoman of the Design Academy in Eindhoven.
  • The fascination of simplicity with the introduction of the "DinA" range
  • International press lunch with keynote speakers and colleagues
  • Three exhibitions with exclusive tours of the global culture of sitting

1:00 p.m Press conference - Design and Education concerning the exhibition "Product design - an introduction with examples taken from practice". Patronage: Ministry of Sciences and Culture of the State of Lower Saxony

1:30 p.m Panel discussion with the Deutscher Werkbund Nord and the Fachhochschule Hanover about "Design in education - dogma or role model?"

3:00 p.m Three years after the EXPO - idea and reality of the sustainable use? Guided tour with the architectural specialist Dietmar Brandenburger around the area of the World Exhibition 2000 in Hanover.

5:00 p.m Check in at the hotels

6:30 p.m Transfer from hotel to congress area

7:00 p.m Official welcome party at the  ICSID International Design Congress in the Convention Center, Messegelände Hanover

 

Monday, 8 September

9:30 a.m Opening of the congress, Peter Butenschøn, President of ICSID; Ralph Wiegman, iF International Forum Design

10:00 a.m Lecture by John Maeda, born in 1966, teacher at the legendary Boston-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), has already influential work to his name in the creative zone between screen und print culture.

11:15 a.m Press conference, the fascination of simlicity, introduction of the "DinA" range by Wilkhahn, Convention Center, room no. 107

12:00 a.m Lecture by Li Edelkoort, works in Paris as coordinator of two research centers on trend-forecasting: Studio Edelkoort and Trend Union, and as publisher of bloom, interior view and view on colour, three visionary magazines. She is chairwoman at the Design Academy of Eindhoven since 1999. 

1:00 p.m  Presse Lunch with the key note speakers and international colleagues iF International Forum Design (pavillion)
 

Afternoon: Three exhibitions concerning the global culture of sitting

2:00 p.m Transfer to Kestner museum

2:30 p.m "Sit down", exclusive guided tour by Dr. Wolfgang Schepers,
director of the Kestner museum

3:00 p.m "Sitting in China", exclusive guided tour by the artist and photographer
Michael Wolf, Hongkong

4:00 p.m  "Sitting in Chairmany", guided tour and talk with the two designers
