The Saxon metropolis has opened an attractive "gateway to the world" with its new Airport Dresden Terminal. A disused hangar has kept its original steel girders and ground plan structures and been converted into an ultra modern terminal with five levels, as a hub for air, rail and road traffic. The urbane architecture in steel, glass and red brick will tune as many as 3.5 million passengers annually into "Florence on the Elbe".
